According to the article, the Vatican is conducting the same type of visitation of several seminaries and male religious orders. And the Pope doesn't order them.Seattle Mamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07156065585493387629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826895306284431219.post-43215736066002978732009-07-06T23:10:17.684-07:002009-07-06T23:10:17.684-07:00Marjorie - thank God I only have two weeks at my j...Marjorie - thank God I only have two weeks at my job, because the plethora of websites to which I am addicted are seriously impacting my performance. Anyway, thanks for adding another one to the pile!

Self - according to my Grandma, who knows everything about Catholicism and is brilliant and amazing, the nuns have always been at odds with the Vatican. But they're also financially independent, which seriously limits what the Vatican can do about it.

I agree that it would be tantamount to disaster if they lost the nuns, but they won't. The beauty of having so many different kinds of nuns and priests within the Church is that they all feel like the Church is theirs, even if they don't agree with the Vatican. These women have more power now than they ever have before. They are, I believe, some of the many engines for change within the Church. But then, we'll see what happens.Jocelynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18144317155556601180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826895306284431219.post-89007872147923605102009-07-02T18:49:21.474-07:002009-07-02T18:49:21.474-07:00This isn't surprising - the nuns are primarily...This isn't surprising - the nuns are primarily the only "Holy Orders" who do the Church's practical work.

It's difficult to take moral theology seriously when you're dealing with practical issues every day - moral theology isn't practical.

If the Church has any sense, they'll leave the nuns to do their (very necessary) work, and they'll look into what they can do to stop the numbers from declining - losing these orders would be tantamount to disaster.Selfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05224936461426298480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826895306284431219.post-70067937773917868622009-07-02T14:17:06.558-07:002009-07-02T14:17:06.558-07:00This made me want to share a comic with you (and a...This made me want to share a comic with you (and anyone else who reads this blog).
